TICKETS AT DOOR?

Want to pay at the entrance? If we haven’t reached capacity, we’ll be selling tickets at the door: Friday $300 / Saturday $700 / Sunday $300. We’ll also sell the Puerto A Go-Go Pass (3 days) at the door for $1000, so if you plan to come for at least two days, it makes little sense to buy anything but that, which also grants access to our pool parties on Saturday & Sunday.

TRANSPORT
getting to Puerto Escondido

Puerto Escondido has a little airport (PXM) and you can book flights via loads of websites & airlines that will connect and land you here – but there are cheaper & better ways to get here. Read on for our tips!

AIR
Search with flexible dates via skyscanner.com – most international flights to Mexico arrive in Mexico City (MEX) or Cancun (CUN). If you have the time, you are liable to find cheaper flights in and out of one of these airports; you can then book your flights to Puerto Escondido (PXM) separately.

Huatulco airport (HUX) is only around two hours down the coast. It’s definitely worth checking for flights – sometimes they’re cheaper / more comfortable.

Oaxaca City’s airport (OAX) is also worth checking (especially if you’re traveling from Cancun or Merida). There are flights from OAX to PXM, but they are expensive – read on for tips on traveling by ground.

ALSO: If you live in the USA near the border, check flights from towns like Tijuana (TIJ) and Mexicali (MXL) – cross into Mexico & grab a domestic flight, it’s likely to be lots cheaper! (And Volaris sometimes flies direct to PXM from Tijuana).   Mexico’s #3 airport is Guadalajara (GDL). Volaris flies direct from there to Puerto Escondido several times per week. We use it to travel between Puerto & Reno. Even though we have to spend a night in Guadalajara, we prefer it rather than spend most of a day in various airports, changing planes.

BUS

Probably the cheapest way from Mexico City to Puerto Escondido is by bus via Oaxaca City. Oaxaca’s capital city is beautiful, and worth staying at least a day or two. Then to get from Oaxaca City to the festival in Puerto Escondido, you take a minivan (“camioneta”). Check this document for details (scroll down for English).

You can also take a comfier bus, or rent a car one-way. Check this page for details

ROAD TRIP

Renting a car and driving could be a cool option – we’ve done it many times. Between Oaxaca and Puerto Escondido there are a lot of cool places to visit (and loads of mezcal). We’ve had good experience with Europcar México (use the Spanish site for cheaper prices!) – also for one-way rentals (pickup in Oaxaca, dropoff in Puerto Escondido). It’s best to avoid driving at night in Mexico – mainly because of the speed bumps!!

NOTE: There is a new highway from Oaxaca to Puerto Escondido that should be open by February. Some say it will open in January, others say February. It’s tough to say exactly when it will open – and when it will open to larger vehicles like buses – but when it does open, the trip will be cut down to under 3 hours! The latest news is that it will be inaugurated on February 4th

Feel free to reach out if you need any more travel tips – buen viaje!

ACCOMMODATION
where to stay in Puerto Escondido

Puerto Escondido is not a big city, but it is quite spread out. We recommend staying somewhere near Playa Principal – our events will be within about a 15-minute walk from there. There are taxis, but they can at times be difficult to find.

OFFICIAL HOTEL

The official hotel of the festival is Hotel Capri: a simple, clean, and fun budget hotel just 5 minutes walk from Puerto Escondido’s main beach. We plan to throw a couple of pool parties there that will only be accessible to those with a full festival pass. Rates: from around $35 USD/night.  HOTEL CAPRI IS FULL

ALSO:

Hotel Caracol Plaza is a 4-star hotel just across the street from Hotel Capri. Here are the rates they quoted for our group (breakfast included):

  • street view $1450 MXN / night (for up to two guests*)
  • sea view $1750 MXN / night (for up to two guests*)

* additional guests $550 MXN / night. each room has two beds, for up to four guests.

To book at these rates, email <reservaciones@caracolplaza.mx> and mention WLF GROUP.. but we found even better rates (with free cancellation) on Hotels.com, so you might just try booking through them first.

AIRBNB / Booking.com, etc

There are plenty of options for all budgets on sites like Airbnb, VRBO, Booking, etc. Just watch out for the location – Puerto Escondido is quite safe, but you’ll probably be more comfortable if you can walk to our events. If you stay within the boundaries of this map you’ll be able to get to some events walking, others with a quick taxi ride:
