INFORMATION & F.A.Q.
DEATH
DEATH, the proto-punk legends from Detroit, USA, will visit (and perform in) Africa for the first time in November 2025!
Widely regarded as one of the very first groups to play punk, and undoubtedly the first all-Black punk band, the Hackney brothers recorded an essential album in 1975, and have a truly incredible story, masterfully documented by Drafthouse Films with the film “A Band Called Death”

Slovenly Recordings is ecstatic — and honored — to present DEATH in Africa, on the 50th anniversary of the recording of their album, and 25 years after David Hackney’s passing.
“This could be one of, if not the greatest honor attributed to our beloved brother David.” – Bobby Hackney

This will be DEATH’s second time playing We’re Loud Fest (the first was in Athens, Greece in 2016)
ITINERARY
20-23 Nov NAIROBI
24-26 Nov LAMU
27-29 Nov KILIFI
The party will start with a weekend in Nairobi, and end on the Kenyan coast. Our goal is to create stages for artists from Africa to play together with rock’n’roll bands from around the world.
We’re Loud Fest strives to become a part of music scenes wherever we go, collaborating with local organizers to create an event that is accessible and affordable for everyone who wants to attend.
For us, the ultimate success will be to see our new friends from the Kenyan music scene having a great party with our old friends from around the world who come to Kenya for the fest.
This year we also have a very special project: our trip to the Kenyan coast is also a mission to bring musical instruments and equipment to the music school of a children’s home. Some of our artists will offer music lessons, and play a free concert. Most of the gear we bring will then be donated to the school.
If you’re traveling to Kenya from afar and would like travel advice & assistance, please fill out this form.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
❔ Do I need a visa to travel to Kenya? Yes, and here are instructions on applying for it.
❔ Do I need vaccines? We recommend checking the health agency of your home country along with any country you plan to visit after your trip to Kenya. We have never been asked for proof of any vaccine when entering Kenya — but we have been asked for proof of yellow fever vaccine when traveling from Kenya (to South Africa). The UK and the USA don’t require the yellow fever vaccine if you’re only going to Nairobi and the coast. It’s hard to say if immigration authorities will believe what you tell them about where you’ve been, so to avoid problems, it might be best to play it safe.
