Scared of Chaka
Live! at Jay's 7inch
|
When Sticker Guy! celebrated our 15th anniversary, I called the guys from SOC to see if they'd play the party. People came to Reno from all over the country to see them! So they did a few more shows around the country and I re-released this 7inch for them to sell. I've only got a few handfuls left, so if you didn't get one, move fast! Previously available on some Italian label.

SCARED OF CHAKA
"How to Lose" 10-inch / CD
|
The perfect blend of garage, punk rock, and pop. This record is loaded with style and the songs are excellently written and recorded. If you've ever liked anything by CHAKA, or have an ounce of taste, you'll love this record. Distributed by Mordam. (co-release with eMpTy Records) MP3s

SCARED OF CHAKA / FLAKE MUSIC
split 7-inch
|
This would be my (and SCARED OF CHAKA's) first treading in the waters of "indie-rock." It's really an Albuquerque thing, you wouldn't understand. Four songs, two covers (of each other's songs, how sweet...!) and some awesome 3-color packaging. The whole first pressing was on orange vinyl. And for the punk purists: CHAKA's got an unreleased song on here that ain't "indie-rock", so don't ignore this one. Fans of THE SHINS take note: FLAKE MUSIC is comprised of mostly the same members!

SCARED OF CHAKA
self-titled LP/CD
|
This was the best record on 702, until these guys released the "How to Lose" 10-inch. Recorded in a basement in Albuquerque for $350, this record has the best sound of any of SOC's releases to date. Fuckin' Joey said: "the fuckin' record of the fuckin' year! I don't eat, I don't sleep, I don't work, I don't fuck -- I haven't even fuckin' jerked off. I'll never write another fuckin' song again." Is that enough for you? SOC plays fast powerful melodic garagey punk rock in the vein of THE DICKIES. Check it out! MP3s

THE GAIN / SCARED OF CHAKA
split 7-inch
|
Two awesome songs from each band. The record has a cool tri-foldout cover type thing. This record came out for a tour the two bands did together in January '96. "Go Today" is one of THE GAIN's best songs, and it happens to be on this record. Chuck Uchida from NO EMPATHY recorded SOC's songs in Chicago for free -- whatta guy. Yanul wrote a great song for this record called "Goodsky" at a Cubs game, and recorded it a few hours later. VERY FEW COPIES of this 7" are left in stock. I mean less than TEN (as of April 2003) and then it is out of print forever. See the new GAIN retrospective coming in summer of 2003 on Slovenly! SOC MP3s . GAIN MP3s

SCARED OF CHAKA
"Hutch Brown Sayngwich" LP/CD
|
The classic garage-pop-punk album from 1995. I heard more than a couple of people call this one "album of the year." SOC plays straight-forward punk rock in the vein of THE DICKIES or early MTX. This album has a real SUPERCHARGER feel to it, it's pretty garagey. MP3s
